Projects > GeoToGE

Objective

For Wild Asia, a social entreprise advising businesses and individuals on how to reduce their footprint on the environment, this project aimed to provide a solution for visualizing GIS data on a free software accessible to the general public: Google Earth.

Indeed, Wild Asia is collaborating with many oil palm plantations in the region. The latter would thus have the possibility to easily visualize the extent of their exploitation and mesure their impact on the surrounding environment, including mangroves which are very fragile ecosystems.

Mission

  • Research on the most common GIS file formats (ArcGIS, MapInfo, AutoCAD)
  • Analysis, architecture, design, implementation, testing, documentation and maintenance of GeoToGE (Java, Swing), which is a software allowing the translation of ESRI shapefile files into KML files readable with Google Earth
  • Development of a web page (ColdFusion, HTML, JavaScript) using the Google Earth API for viewing GIS data from the database in a KML format
