Projets > WOVOdat

Objective

Initiated in 2000 by the World Organization of Volcanological Observatories (WOVO) and under the aegis of the world-renowned volcanologist Christopher G. Newhall, the WOVOdat project (The World Organization of Volcano Observatories Database of volcanic unrest) aims to have a database for volcanologists so that they can easily and quickly access historical data of volcanoes around the world.

Each volcano has a similar behavior and is therefore comparable (obviously taking into account their type). WOVOdat will thus help volcanologists predict the behavior of a volcano in times of crisis.

Mission

  • Revision and optimization of the MySQL database structure
  • Installing PEAR on the web server (LAMP - Linux (Fedora), Apache, MySQL, PHP)
  • Development of PHP scripts and tests for the data input / output system using an intermediate format called WOVOML (XML, XSD)
  • Development of PHP scripts for checking and maintaining database integrity
  • Administration (rectifications, optimization) of the database (phpMyAdmin)
  • Design and development of the online user interface (PHP, PEAR, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax, jQuery)
  • Development of the data visualization system (Google Maps API, Flot)
  • Technical documentation (Word, HTML) on the database and developed scripts
